The core scientific consortium includes the Department of Geology at the University of Tromsø, the Department of Earth Science at the University of Bergen, P-Cable 3D Seismic AS, Oslo, and the Norwegian Geological Survey in Trondheim.

International partners will be involved at different stages of activities depending on interest within the framework of international projects. These are mainly IODP/ECORD, University of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain), IFM-GEOMAR (Kiel, Germany), NOCS (Southampton, UK), and IFREMER (Brest, France).

A potential framework for the 3D seismic infrastructure on a European scale is seen in connection with the coordination effort "Eurofleets" ("Comité Stratégique et technique de la Flotte hauturière et cotière") and the "OFEG Barteragreements" for an exchange of infrastructures. The possibilities are to be evaluated and proposals to participate are to be prepared by the steering committee of the infrastructure.

The P-Cable consortium already exists for several years and ensured the continued development and operation of the existing P-Cable infrastructure in collaborative research and industry projects. Annual meetings review the latest technological developments related to infrastructure and processing software, and each partner plays a significant role for the advancement of this technology and its application.

The University of Tromsø has been involved in the development of the P-Cable high-resolution 3D seismic system since its beginning and thus, has long-lasting and thorough experience and technological competence of running such a system. The University of Tromsø research vessel R/V "Jan Mayen" has been used for sea trials and expedition more than 10 times in the last 8 years and the crew on the research vessel has been an integral part to the development of system components and deployment procedures.

The Department of Geology at the University of Tromsø is one of the leading institutes in analyzing and interpretation of 3D seismic data as demonstrated by its recent publication record (Andreassen et al., 2004, 2007a, 2007b, 2008; Rafaelsen et al., 2002, 2007, 2008; Bünz et al., 2005; Hustoft et al., 2007; Colpaert et al., 2007; Laberg et al., 2007; Chand et al., 2008; Petersen et al., 2008). Furthermore, the Department runs a dedicated 3D seismic lab and mini-"visionarium" and hosts a PhD-level course on 3D seismic interpretation. Some of Norway's best young experts on 3D seismic interpretation have been educated at the department. Expanding in the field of 3D seismic acquisition and interpretation therefore is clearly one of the strategic research and teaching areas at the Department of Geology. The student education at the Department is already including high resolution P-Cable-3D seismic technology and science that resulted in training and several student reports.

The University of Bergen (UiB) has been supporting the development of the P-Cable highresolution 3D technology through project funding associated with the on-going National Gas Hydrate project GANS. Department of Earth Science at UiB has 50 years experience with marine seismic surveying (including multi-channel seismic) and has build up a technical division for running theses systems. The institute has up-to-date seismic processing facilities and has the recent years utterly extended that division with expertise within signal processing.

P-Cable 3D Seismic AS is a R&D company devoted to commercialize the patented P-Cable 3D seismic technology. The company has led the development of this technology over the last 8 years in close cooperation with the University of Tromsø, National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, UK, and Fugro Survey AS, Oslo. The company has its main expertise in further developing the PCable technology and maintains close contact to the manufacturing industry for seismic cables.

The NGU activity concentrates on mapping various strategic and environmental sensitive areas of the Norwegian margin within the MAREANO project. Selected areas can be of interest for target subsurface mapping.
