THE EUROMARGINS PROGRAMME
Slope Stability on Europe's Passive Continental Margins
A Strategic University Programme
in Marine Geosciences
at the Department of Geology,
University of Tromsø
  SCIENCE PLAN:

The consortium of principal investigators (PI's) shall carry out a
collaborative scientific research on the ESF EUROCORES
EUROMARGINS Programme on the project: Slope Stability on Europe's
Passive Continental Margins
. The plan is:

To carry out research cruises lead by the University of Tromsø,
the University of Bergen, the University of Barcelona, the Scott Polar
Research Institute, and the Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar and Marine
Research investigating slope failures in the designed working areas.

To make special efforts to investigate on cruises with RV Jan Mayen
(University of Tromsø), G.O.Sars (University of Bergen), James Clark Ross
(University of Cambridge), RV Polarstern (Alfred-Wegener-Institute for
Polar and Marine Research) and RV Hespérides the Arctic submarine slope
failures of the Yermak Plateau/Svalbard using acoustic imaging and
geological sampling techniques.

To use the funds provided by the national research councils to carry out the
scientific missions.

To make available annual reports, to carry out annual meetings to screen
project achievements, and to insure PhD/Postdoc interactions.

To make special efforts on writing publications in four stages:
- A short overview article by all PI's, in a publication with wide outreach,
such as Eos.
- A series of multi authored conference papers, preferable at one or more
widely attended conferences
- A series of multi authored publications in a special journal issue
- Specialized articles by individual scientists
